The short answer

What are anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections use a purified protein to temporarily relax the muscles responsible for expression lines. They are commonly used for frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. Treatment is individually planned following clinical assessment, taking into account facial anatomy, muscle movement and the patient's treatment goals. Individual responses and outcomes vary. At Perfectus Derma Aesthetics every treatment is carried out by experienced Aesthetic Nurse Practitioners.

Patient journey

What to expect from anti-wrinkle treatment

Consultation & preparation

Come with clean, makeup-free skin where possible and avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment. Tell your nurse about any medicines, supplements or previous treatments at your consultation. New patients will require consultation and assessment before treatment, and treatment may not always be clinically appropriate or undertaken on the same day.

During treatment

Aftercare

Stay upright for 4 hours and avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas on the day. Limit strenuous exercise, saunas and facials for 12 to 24 hours. Treatment effects develop gradually and vary between individuals, usually taking up to 2 weeks to take full effect, with a review period at the 2-week mark.

FAQs

How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?

The duration of effect varies between individuals and may be influenced by the treatment area and the individual's response. Most patients see their result hold for around 3 to 4 months. Where appropriate, further treatment can be discussed following clinical review.

Can anti-wrinkle injections help with bruxism and jaw clenching?

Jaw clenching and bruxism can be discussed during consultation. Your practitioner will assess your symptoms, medical history and muscle activity, and discuss whether treatment is clinically appropriate, including expected benefits, limitations and alternative management options.

Do anti-wrinkle injections treat excessive sweating?

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, can be assessed during consultation. Where treatment is clinically appropriate, your practitioner will discuss the available options, expected response, potential risks and the duration of effect.

Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?

Discomfort varies between individuals. Treatment involves a number of injections using a fine needle, and your practitioner will explain what to expect before treatment.

Will I still look like me?

Treatment is individually planned following assessment of your facial anatomy, muscle movement and treatment goals. The degree of change varies between individuals, and your practitioner will discuss the intended outcome with you before treatment.

Is there any downtime?

Recovery varies between individuals. Temporary effects at injection sites such as redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur. Keep upright for 4 hours, skip strenuous exercise, saunas and facials for 12 to 24 hours, and avoid rubbing the treated areas on the first day. Your practitioner will provide appropriate aftercare advice and explain when to contact the clinic if you have any concerns.
